Scoliosis Treatment with Chiropractic Care

Scoliosis is a musculoskeletal disorder that results in changes to the structure and function of the spine. It causes a sideways curvature of the spine to the left or right side (usually greater than 10-degree deviation from normal), bending the spine into an “S” or “C” shape, and is present in three out of 100 people, including children, adolescents, and adults. The cause of the most common form of scoliosis, known as idiopathic scoliosis, is unknown. Juvenile scoliosis affects children between the ages of 3 and 9 years old, but scoliosis can be present at any age, and can affect any part of the spine. The most common spinal regions affected by scoliosis are the chest (thoracic) area, and lower back (lumbar) area.

At 100% Chiropractic, our goal is to help our patients experience 100% pain relief without the use of medication. Since chiropractic care focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of problems affecting the alignment of the spine, other bones, and muscles, chiropractors are very often seen as “doctors of the spine” with nearly three million scoliosis patients in the United States choosing chiropractic care every year to treat their scoliosis. Conventional treatments for scoliosis include wearing a back brace and/or surgery.

Bracing is a common treatment method used to help correct juvenile scoliosis, encouraging the spine to develop normally by holding the spine in place. Chiropractic treatments can be used quite effectively in tandem with or separate from the use of a back brace, and may help patients avoid surgery, which carries with it its own set of risk factors. Depending on the severity of the condition, the prognosis can range from fair to good, depending on how soon the problem is diagnosed and treated. Chiropractic care and treatment can often mean significantly lower health care costs overall by helping you save money on doctor visits, pain medication, and surgery.
